Our donations center is often the first point of connection between our mission and the community we serve. Position Summary The Soft Goods Processing Associate plays a vital role in advancing our organization's ministry. By preparing donated clothing, linens, and textiles for the retail floor, you help generate critical revenue to support Lynden Christian Schools and the local community. This position is more than retail production—it is an opportunity to extend hospitality, steward community resources responsibly, and serve our neighbors with dignity.

Requirements

  • Mission-driven heart with a strong alignment with our faith-based values and organizational statement of faith.
  • Attention to detail to recognize current fashion trends, high-quality brands, and minor garment defects.
  • Fast-paced endurance to successfully manage repetitive tasks and meet daily volume goals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for instructing volunteers or interacting with diverse populations of donors and guests.
  • Stand or walk for extended periods (up to 8 hours per shift).
  • Lift up to 40 lbs. regularly, including moving large bags, bins, and boxes of clothing.
  • Repetitive movements, including bending, reaching, lifting, and operating standard price/tagging equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect textiles for quality standards, separating items that are stained, torn, or damaged from sellable merchandise.
  • Categorize items by department, including men's, women's, and children's apparel, accessories, shoes, and linens.
  • Manage textile recycling by properly boxing or bagging unsellable items for bulk salvage programs.
  • Prepare merchandise for the sales floor using the POS barcode system, tagging gun, sizing markers, and hangers.
  • Price soft goods consistently, following established store pricing guides and recognizing high-value brands.
  • Meet production goals as established by management to ensure a fresh, steady flow of clothing reaches the sales floor daily.
  • Greet donors with warmth and gratitude, assisting them with unloading donations and distributing tax receipts.
  • Share our mission concisely with donors and shoppers who ask about the work our thrift store supports.
  • Work collaboratively alongside team members, store volunteers to foster a joyful, encouraging work environment.
  • Maintain processing stations by keeping the sorting, hanging, and tagging areas organized and free of debris.
  • Ensure floor safety by removing empty boxes, racks, and safety hazards from public and back-room zones.
