About The Position

The Volunteer Coordinator establishes and implements policies and procedures for the department within the guidelines of Joint Commission, OSHA DPH and other regulatory agency requirements. This role develops and implements policies and procedures for recruiting, training and supervising volunteers and department personnel to support the development of direct reports. The coordinator recruits, interviews, selects, supervises and evaluates volunteers with input from the Director of Hospice as required. In collaboration with the Education Manager, the role designs and supervises the orientation and training of volunteers regarding agency philosophy, policy and practice. The position maintains records pertaining to volunteer qualifications and training, as per Joint Commission, DPH, Medicare, and regulatory guidelines. Volunteers are assigned to service on the basis of department needs, patient/family needs and the overall volunteer's interests and skills. The role records, assesses and monitors a record-keeping system, which includes volunteer hours and services delivered as required for Medicare documentation. The coordinator effectively manages the expectations of patients and families, and performance of direct reports. The role contacts Hospice patients or caregivers and performs initial evaluation of volunteer need as directed by interdisciplinary plan of care and assigns volunteers accordingly. With the Hospice team, the role designs, schedules and coordinates Hospice volunteer training, support sessions and monitors need for in-service education. The position assesses appropriateness of volunteer use across all business units and develops and implements new volunteer positions in accordance with agency needs. The role develops and implements a volunteer action plan based on the specific needs communicated by the discipline involved. The coordinator plans, promotes and implements agency volunteer events and prepares a monthly report of the volunteer program and its activities. Other duties as assigned. Requirements

  • 2 years experience in health care and volunteer activity.
  • Experience in administrative functions which include ability to develop policies and procedures as it relates to the volunteer program.
  • Excellent written, oral communication and computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years college level education in Human Resources or Public Relations preferred.
  • 1 year supervisory experience preferred.
