About The Position

Recruits, trains, coordinates, and supervises volunteers for all departments, including volunteer Bell Ringers and Angel Tree workers, under Central Oklahoma Area Command (COAC) including Oklahoma, Cleveland, McClain, Logan, and Canadian counties. Coordinates with department heads to determine volunteer requirements. Build and maintain volunteer databases. Works closely with the Area Commander and Director of Development in maintaining and expanding public awareness of Salvation Army Activities in the areas serviced by COAC. Makes personal appearances for the purposes of community relations and volunteer recruitment. Organizes special projects assigned by the Area Commander. Assists with special events and holiday activities as necessary, including recruitment of volunteers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Two years’ experience recruiting people to perform work on a volunteer basis preferred, Or Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Valid Driver’s License

Responsibilities

  • Provides orientation and training sessions for new volunteers; plans, schedules, and assigns volunteer staff to specific departments; assists in identifying and recommending changes in assignments and termination of volunteer staff if needed.
  • Establishes and maintains up-to-date records on all volunteers using a computer-based program; prepares monthly and annual statistical reports regarding the status of the volunteers and the program overall.
  • Maintains contact with current and potential volunteers throughout the year.
  • Recognizes volunteers for their service through the annual Volunteer Appreciation event.
  • Ensure that adequate preparations are made with the department to ensure an effective use of volunteers.
  • Coordinate with Area Commanders and department heads to determine specific needs.
  • Work with the Area Commander and Disaster Services Coordinator to schedule and plan for disaster response training, teams and assignments. This includes being available 24/7 as needs arise for volunteers.
  • Work with Area Commanders on special/seasonal program assignments.
  • Makes public appearances to inform, educate and orient the community as to The Salvation Army programs and services and to present volunteer opportunities; researches and identifies new opportunities for volunteer recruitment.
  • Performs work for special projects as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
