About The Position

L’Arche Hamilton is a welcoming, relationship-centred community where adults with developmental disabilities are supported to live meaningful, connected lives. Rooted in the values of mutual relationships, respect, inclusion, and celebration of each person’s gifts, the program offers engaging activities, community participation, and opportunities for growth. We are seeking a person who supports the mission and mandate of L’Arche Hamilton and cover a Parental leave. This consists a split position. The Volunteer Coordinator will seek out and coordinate opportunities to give volunteers/ student placements a rewarding and valuable experience. The Community and Spiritual life Coordinator will inspire us more deeply into community life and help community members to discover and appreciate the deeper meaning in our day-to-day life.

Requirements

  • Experience coordinating volunteers, events, committees, or community programs
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse groups of people.
  • Comfortable facilitating meetings, reflection opportunities, and community gatherings.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • A clear Vulnerable Sector Police Check.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with people with developmental disabilities is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, orient, supervise, and support volunteers and student placements.
  • Develop an understanding of the needs of homes and cafe to effectively place volunteers.
  • Liaise with student placement supervisors and academic advisors.
  • Develop and maintain processes for tracking, screening, and placement of volunteers within the community.
  • Provide training, orientation, and formation opportunities for volunteers.
  • Promote volunteer opportunities and assist with volunteer appreciation initiatives.
  • Host and support the Spiritual and Community Life Committee.
  • Coordinate and support committees responsible for community celebrations, public holiday gatherings, and other community events.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the weekly Reflect and Connect gathering on Wednesdays from 3:30–4:30 p.m.
  • Organize and coordinate the annual Community Retreat in collaboration with the retreat committee.
  • Be a supportive and comforting presence during times of grief, loss, conflict, or other challenging community situations.
  • Contribute to and maintain the L’Arche Hamilton Weekly Wave.
  • Encourage opportunities for reflection, celebration, prayer, learning, and community-building.
  • Help community members discover and appreciate the deeper meaning found in everyday life and relationships.
