About The Position

We’re looking for a Volunteer & Community Engagement Coordinator who is passionate about working with people and knows how to turn a volunteer opportunity into a meaningful and memorable experience. You’ll work with individual volunteers as well as community and corporate groups, helping coordinate everything from volunteer recruitment and event preparation to orientations, day-of facilitation, and follow-up. At RAFT, your work directly connects people, community, and purpose. You’ll have the opportunity to create welcoming and engaging experiences for individual, community, and corporate volunteers, build relationships with volunteers and community partners that strengthen RAFT’s impact, lead volunteer groups and help people see the direct impact of their service, help recruit and grow a community of volunteers who return because they feel connected to RAFT’s mission, and support hands-on STEAM learning experiences that reach thousands of students and educators. You will also collaborate with a creative, passionate, and mission-driven team.

Requirements

  • Two or more years of experience in volunteer coordination, volunteer management, community engagement, nonprofit programs, corporate volunteering, community events, education, or a related field.
  • Experience welcoming, coordinating, facilitating, or leading groups of volunteers.
  • A genuine enthusiasm for working with people and helping them feel connected to a mission.
  • Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage people from different backgrounds and organizations.
  • Experience coordinating volunteer programs, community activities, service projects, or events.
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills and confidence speaking with groups.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to coordinate multiple activities, schedules, and priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfort learning technology and systems used to coordinate volunteers and operations.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively across teams.
  • Availability to work some weekends based on scheduled volunteer activities.
  • Understanding of how to engage people, build relationships, and create volunteer experiences that make people want to return.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for volunteers participating in onsite and offsite volunteer activities.
  • Welcome and engage individual volunteers, community organizations, and corporate volunteer groups.
  • Lead volunteer orientations and clearly communicate RAFT’s mission, the purpose of each project, and the impact volunteers are making.
  • Facilitate volunteer activities and provide guidance, encouragement, and support throughout the experience.
  • Help create an environment where volunteers feel welcomed, appreciated, organized, and connected to RAFT’s mission.
  • Build relationships with volunteers that encourage continued involvement and long-term engagement.
  • Gather feedback and identify opportunities to continuously improve the volunteer experience.
  • Help recognize and celebrate volunteer contributions.
  • Recruit volunteers through community outreach, nonprofit networks, schools, businesses, community organizations, and online platforms.
  • Develop relationships with community and corporate partners interested in volunteer opportunities.
  • Respond to volunteer inquiries and help connect individuals and groups with meaningful opportunities.
  • Support volunteer communications before and after events to ensure volunteers feel informed, prepared, and appreciated.
  • Partner with the Volunteer & Event Coordinator and other RAFT team members to plan volunteer activities, schedules, and communications.
  • Prepare volunteer projects, materials, and workstations before each event.
  • Coordinate volunteer group logistics and ensure activities are appropriately organized for the size and needs of each group.
  • Lead the setup and breakdown of volunteer events.
  • Coordinate materials needed for volunteer kit-production activities.
  • Work collaboratively across RAFT to ensure volunteer projects align with organizational and production needs.
  • Support purchasing, inventory management, and production planning using NetSuite.
  • Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) for RAFT’s STEAM learning kits.
  • Prepare purchase orders and coordinate with suppliers.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and help investigate discrepancies.
  • Complete kit builds and inventory transactions in NetSuite.
  • Support retail operations, including Point of Sale transactions, as needed.
