About The Position

The coach educates students through interscholastic competition, supporting academic achievement and opportunities for academic success. The coach treats students with respect, prioritizes their welfare, and promotes ethical and moral character. The role requires professional conduct and integrity in interactions with students, officials, athletic directors, school administrators, state athletic officials, and the media or public. The volunteer coach must remain under the supervision of a full-time certified staff member at all times.

Requirements

• Be at least 21 years of age.
• Hold current CPR certification.
• Meet coaching qualifications, course requirements, and certifications established by federal, state, and district criteria.
• Pass the district background investigation.
• Be recommended by the principal or designee.
• Receive Governing Board approval.
• Hold an active Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• Volunteer coaches must be under the direct supervision of a certified staff member at all times; the certified staff member is designated through the PUHSD-approved process.

Responsibilities

• Know and enforce federal, state, and district policies, rules, regulations, and procedures.
• Follow professional-conduct standards in Governing Board Policy and the NO Pass/NO Play policy.
• Provide for participant safety and welfare in practice areas, locker rooms, and on buses or vans.
• Support the school’s overall athletic program by encouraging student participation across athletic programs.
• Maintain accurate inventory and ensure proper storage, issuance, care, and collection of school athletic equipment.
• Follow district requirements for transportation, student travel and supervision, facility use, and key management.
• Schedule, organize, supervise, and proactively manage practices, competitions, and pre- and post-season events.
• Apply knowledge of the sport being coached.
• Remain under the supervision of a designated full-time certified staff member at all times.
