About The Position

Entre Nous Femmes Housing Society (ENFHS) is seeking a dedicated individual to serve on its Board of Directors as a volunteer for a two-year term. The ENFHS Board is responsible for the governance, monitoring, and oversight of the organization and its subsidiary, ensuring alignment with the Vision, Mission, and objectives, fiscal responsibility, and adherence to bylaws and regulations. The Board provides strategic guidance and support to the Chief Executive Officer. ENFHS is a charitable not-for-profit housing organization committed to creating affordable, safe, and secure housing communities, particularly for women, single-parent families, Indigenous peoples, and other equity-deserving groups. The organization currently manages over 500 rental homes across 13 properties and aims to significantly expand its impact in the coming years. ENFHS operates on the traditional territories of the Coast Salish peoples and is committed to reconciliation and anti-colonial actions. They strive to create a diverse and inclusive environment and encourage applications from women, gender-diverse individuals, people of colour, Indigenous peoples, and those with lived experience in social housing.

Requirements

  • Commit approximately 6-10 hours a month to Board business.
  • Reside in the Metro Vancouver region.
  • Self-identify as a member of one or more of the following groups: Women and gender-diverse individuals, Racialized individuals, Indigenous peoples, Lived experience.
  • Have an understanding of and commitment to the work of ENFHS and the organization's Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Be committed to a just and equitable world for women, gender-diverse people, single-parent families, Indigenous and racialized groups, and other equity-deserving groups and allies.
  • Should be knowledgeable about gender equity.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Accounting.
  • Experience in the Legal Profession (i.e. Real Estate Law, Employment Law, Tenancy Law).
  • Experience in Finance & Social Impact Finance.
  • Experience in Non-profit housing development or operations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve on the ENFHS Board of Directors for a two-year term.
  • Provide governance, monitoring, and oversight of Entre Nous Femmes Housing Society and SPAHS 1997.
  • Ensure ENFHS achieves outcomes consistent with its Vision, Mission, and objectives.
  • Ensure ENFHS operates and stewards assets in a fiscally sound and prudent manner.
  • Ensure ENFHS operates in accordance with its Constitution and Bylaws, and all applicable Acts, Statutes, Regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide strategic guidance, oversight, and support to the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Attend at least seven out of nine Board meetings.
  • Attend the Annual General Meeting in November.
  • Serve on at least one Committee of the Board (Executive, Development, Finance & Audit, Governance, Nominating).
  • Attend Committee Meetings as scheduled.
  • Attend Board education and training.
  • Be available to attend special events such as site visits, socials, and resident events.
  • Be available to represent the Society at conferences, functions and meetings on an occasional basis.
  • Promote the organization in the community.
  • Be a member of Entre Nous Femmes Housing Society and SPAHS 1997 by paying an annual fee of $2.00.
  • Understand and carry out the duties and responsibilities of a Board of Directors.
  • Support the CEO in implementing the Society's Strategic Plan.
  • Be a champion of short-, medium- and long-term goals for the organization.
  • Ensure Board governance policies are developed and implemented.
  • Conduct Board evaluations of effectiveness and engagement.
  • Hire and evaluate the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Ensure fiscal accountability by thoroughly reviewing quarterly financial reporting and annual audits.
  • Approve the annual operating budget.
  • Approve major projects, purchases, investments and debt servicing.
