Voluntary Benefits, Practice Leader

HUB InternationalTulsa, OK
Hybrid

About The Position

HUB International is one of the world's largest insurance brokers, providing a broad range of risk management, employee benefits, and wealth management solutions. With more than 18,000 employees across 600+ offices throughout North America, HUB combines the reach of a global organization with the service sensibility of a local partner — and that combination is exactly what this role is built to leverage. The Voluntary Benefits Practice Leader is the person who makes VB impossible to ignore — inside HUB and across every account we touch. This is a producer role at its core, but one with a broader mandate: to grow a voluntary benefits practice by equipping our producers, deepening carrier relationships, and showing employers that voluntary benefits are not an afterthought. They are a strategic tool for workforce attraction, retention, and financial wellness. Reporting directly to the Chief Sales Officer, this leader will work hand-in-hand with all HUB Mid-America producers — across all lines of business — to surface VB opportunities, close new business, and establish HUB as the region's most credible voluntary benefits resource. The role is equal parts producer, practice builder, and subject matter expert.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in voluntary benefits, employee benefits, or a related insurance/financial services field — with a demonstrated track record in sales and business development.
  • Active Life, Accident & Health Producer License (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire).
  • Proven ability to develop and close new business, manage carrier relationships, and collaborate with multi-line producers.
  • Deep knowledge of voluntary benefit products including life, disability, critical illness, accident, hospital indemnity, and supplemental health.
  • Familiarity with enrollment platforms, benefits administration technology, and communication tools that drive VB participation.
  • College degree required; advanced degree or professional designations (CEBS, RHU, GBA) preferred.
  • A seller’s instinct — comfortable prospecting, presenting, and closing, but with the consultative depth to earn long-term trust.
  • Strong communicator and storyteller; able to translate complex benefits concepts into compelling narratives for C-suite audiences and frontline employees alike.
  • Collaborative by nature — this role succeeds by making other producers more effective, not by working around them.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage a personal book, support producer activity, and lead practice initiatives simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with Benefitpoint, Zywave, or comparable agency management platforms a plus.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a bias toward action — comfortable in a role that is both creating structure and operating without it.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience
  • Up to 25% travel
  • High school or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Actively prospect for new voluntary benefits clients and develop a personal book of business across the Mid-America region.
  • Partner with all HUB producers — Employee Benefits, Commercial Lines, and Personal Lines — to identify and convert voluntary benefit opportunities within existing accounts and new prospects.
  • Lead or co-lead finalist presentations as the VB expert, deploying carrier relationships, enrollment strategy, and product knowledge to win.
  • Develop and execute a regional VB sales strategy aligned with the regional growth objectives and HUB’s national voluntary benefits platform.
  • Represent HUB at industry events, networking functions, employer associations, and carrier forums to elevate the regional VB profile.
  • Serve as the regional authority on voluntary benefits — products, carriers, enrollment platforms, workforce demographics, and market trends.
  • Build and maintain a robust carrier and vendor relationship network to ensure HUB has access to competitive products, preferred pricing, and enrollment resources.
  • Stay ahead of legislative, regulatory, and market shifts affecting voluntary benefits; translate those changes into actionable guidance for producers and clients.
  • Develop thought leadership materials, sales tools, and training content that raise the VB knowledge floor across the entire producer team.
  • Partner with the national HUB VB practice to align regional strategy with enterprise-wide initiatives and shared resources.
  • Design enrollment strategies that drive genuine participation — not just compliance — leveraging communication tools, technology platforms, and carrier partnerships.
  • Analyze voluntary benefit plan performance, participation data, and workforce demographics to make informed recommendations to clients and prospects.
  • Support account management teams in stewardship of existing VB clients; serve as escalation resource for complex carrier and service issues.
  • Champion the use of enrollment technology, ben admin integration, and data-driven communication strategies to modernize how clients experience voluntary benefits.
  • Conduct regular training sessions for producers, account executives, and account managers on voluntary benefit products, enrollment strategies, and cross-sell techniques.
  • Collaborate with the CSO and regional leadership on budgeting, headcount planning, and practice growth projections.
  • Contribute to the Critical Path Process (HUB’s strategic account planning framework) for key VB accounts and high-priority prospects.
  • Participate in regional leadership meetings and communicate VB practice priorities, wins, and market intelligence to the broader team.
