About The Position

As the Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, you will provide person centered, strength-based services to individuals with substance use disorders. This position ensures educational support, pre-vocational support and vocational rehabilitation counseling services are provided. These services may be provided in clinical and community based settings. The Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor will provide comprehensive vocational programming that will result in the participants build the skills necessary for successful employment, education, and career growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling, Disability Services, or Counseling.
  • Two years experience working in a SUD OASAS funded program.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and motivate clients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, employers, community stakeholders, and oversight agencies.
  • Experience with the development and facilitation of group activities in support of skills development.
  • Obtain a valid health certificate to meet SJCS or current funding authority requirements as required.
  • Meet SJCS and the funding authority requirement of criminal background and record checks.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), master’s degree in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling, OR Access-VR Certified Counselor, CASAC, LMSW, LMHC, LCSW, or other master’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience as a Vocational Counselor.
  • Experience in the Substance Use Disorder field.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive educational and vocational assessments.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to develop individualized recovery plans.
  • Provide Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling Services.
  • Assures the delivery of consistent, non-judgmental, person centered services that are strength-based and develop assets.
  • Conduct needs assessments, based on employment goal to identify education/training requirements, personal strengths and necessary support services.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with vocational, educational, and employment service providers.
  • Develop vocational and educational treatment plan and document goal achievement in case record.
  • Assist participants in overcoming obstacles to employment, assist in obtaining paperwork necessary for employment applications.
  • Maintains accurate, up-to-date records of all contacts, and collects statistical data.
  • Utilize and Electronic Health Record to document all services provided.
  • Attend training, staff meetings, conferences, and seminars, as scheduled.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the program and needs of individuals served.
  • Must have the ability to work well with others, be a positive role model and a good representative of SJCS in the community.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as a member of a team.
  • Must maintain a high degree of professionalism, good judgement in accordance with the Code of Conduct.
  • Adheres to all applicable local, state, federal and agency regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Implement outreach strategies to include targeted engagement through partner networks, recovery centers, community events, local educational institutions, as well as informational sessions and workshops to raise awareness of vocational services.
