About The Position

This position is for a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor 1/2/3 located in Wasilla, Alaska. The role involves evaluating client eligibility for vocational rehabilitation services, approving individualized employment plans, and authorizing case closures. The counselor will provide guidance and counseling to clients with disabilities to help them achieve career goals and overcome employment barriers. This includes interpreting assessments to understand client strengths and needs, developing service strategies, and authorizing services such as assistive technology, medical evaluations, and training. Collaboration with schools, employers, and community partners is also a key aspect of the role to ensure successful employment outcomes for clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college AND Any combination of education, training, and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving, Oral and Written Communication, Continual Learning, Interpersonal Skills, and Social Services.
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college in vocational rehabilitation, counseling psychology, social work, guidance counseling, special education, or a related discipline as defined by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) (for Level 2).
  • Certification in Rehabilitation Counseling (CRC) from the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (for Level 3).
  • Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and theories of human behavior and performance in various contexts, mental processes, or the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders (Psychology).
  • Ability to assess client needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations; knowledge of available products and services; commitment to providing quality products and services (Customer Service).
  • Ability to show understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness to others; develop and maintain effective relationships with others; effectively deal with individuals who are difficult, hostile, or distressed; relate well to people from varied backgrounds and different situations; be sensitive to cultural diversity, race, gender, disabilities, and other individual differences (Interpersonal Skills).

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and determine client eligibility for vocational rehabilitation services.
