About The Position

CoreCivic is seeking a Vocational Instructor to provide vocational and occupational instruction in a secure institutional setting. The role teaches subjects such as plumbing and other trades to help inmates/students learn subject matter and develop vocational skills. The instructor prepares course objectives in accordance with curriculum standards and applicable contract requirements, plans and documents instruction tailored to students’ individual needs and abilities, and uses handouts, texts, audiovisual aids, and other materials. The instructor evaluates student performance, provides progress reports as required, and offers additional instruction as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED certification, or equivalent.
• Must be eligible for or certified by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), or a comparable entity in the subject areas of instruction.
• Four years of full-time, wage-earning experience in the vocational trade or career readiness skills, including technical trade experience; or three years of experience as a certified instructor teaching in the specific trade or subject area.
• Ability to give clear instructions in the trade and/or vocational area.
• Experience in Microsoft Office applications.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining and/or maintaining required agency credentials.

Responsibilities

• Prepare course objectives following curriculum standards and applicable contract requirements.
• Plan and document a program of study that meets students’ individual needs and abilities.
• Provide instruction using handouts, texts, audiovisual aids, and other materials.
• Evaluate students’ performance and issue progress reports as required.
• Assist students with additional instruction as needed.
• Teach vocational and occupational subject matter, including plumbing and other trades, to develop students’ vocational skills.
