About The Position

This Vocational Evaluation Specialist (VES) provides direct support, consultation, and training to vocational evaluators providing evaluation services within the Western Region of North Carolina. This position will provide adequate training and consultation to new and existing evaluators in the region as they administer vocational assessments that help guide career options for persons with disabilities and will serve as a consultant to supervisors in the region on vocational evaluation issues, trends, and/or challenging client cases. The location for this position will be based on selected applicant and approval by the Regional Director based on program and business need.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in vocational evaluation, rehabilitation counseling, or closely related human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in the vocational evaluation of individuals with disabilities; or Bachelor’s degree in vocational evaluation, rehabilitation counseling, or closely related human services from an appropriately accredited institution and current certification by a nationally recognized certifying body and three years of progressive experience as a vocational evaluator; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience and/or knowledge of mentoring, coaching, and training employees in a supportive climate in the fundamentals of vocational evaluation using an individualized approach.
  • Knowledge of the psychological, social, and special education concepts related to the determination of vocational abilities and potential of individuals with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of evaluative tools, work samples, and job sampling techniques specific to the vocational evaluation of individuals with disabilities.
  • Experience producing written communications and detailed vocational evaluation reports that are accurate and aid counselors in career planning with clients.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of analyzing data and existing evaluative techniques and develop and standardize new methods.

Responsibilities

  • Assessing the quality and quantity of the vocational evaluators work through case reviews, providing feedback and training
  • Assessing the effectiveness of the vocational evaluation program within the region and making strategic improvements to align with regional goals and best practices
  • Collaborating with the other Regional Evaluation Specialists to ensure consistency in evaluation policies, methods, and standards of tools utilized
  • Collaborating with unit managers and supervisory staff on the performance of the vocational evaluator to ensure adequate skill attainment and performance
  • Participating on multi-disciplinary teams and committees, and engaging in outreach efforts for exchange of information to increase awareness of evaluation services within the region
  • Assisting with coordinating evaluation services in offices with evaluator vacancies and completing assessments in the absence of designated evaluators
