About The Position

The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) is seeking dynamic, motivated, and diverse candidates for part-time faculty positions to engage and educate students in tutor training methodologies aligned with College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) standards. Successful candidates will collaborate, communicate, and work professionally with students, staff, faculty, and administrators. Applicants with a demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring a diverse student population are strongly encouraged to apply. Qualified applicants may be offered an interview with Noncredit Education Department members at one or more of LACCD’s nine colleges. Final determinations of part-time Noncredit Instructor assignments are contingent upon enrollment, funding, and class availability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in any field AND Two (2) years of full-time related professional experience OR Associate degree in any field AND Six (6) years of full-time related professional experience.
  • Professional experience must be directly related to the teaching assignment.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college faculty, staff, and students.
  • Verification of Employment letter from a current or previous employer that substantiates industry or professional knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Letter of interest describing the applicant’s interest in the position and qualifications.
  • Current resume.
  • Contact information for three (3) professional references.
  • Unofficial transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate coursework with degrees posted (official transcripts required if selected).
  • Verification of Experience letters on letterhead stationery; must show inclusive dates of assignments, state if full-time or part-time and indicate duties. If part-time, the number of paid hours worked per week, semester or year must be included.

Nice To Haves

  • Applicants with demonstrated certification in Canvas or other online instructional modalities may be given preference.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a full range of community college Noncredit Vocational Education course offerings focused on Tutor training.
  • Supervise, mentor, or coordinate peer tutors or student workers.
  • Design and facilitate engaging training sessions for diverse learners.
  • Model and teach professional communication and ethical tutoring practices.
  • Support student success with attention to equity, inclusion, and diverse learning needs.
  • Assess tutor performance and provide constructive, developmental feedback.
  • Conduct classes in a virtual learning environment using Canvas, hybrid, or hyflex modalities to support remote learning.
