About The Position

We are looking for Clinical and Vocational Rehabilitation Case Managers to work in the dynamic Group Disability Claims Offices to serve the needs of individuals who may not be able to work, due to a disability, and are requesting income replacement through their employer's Hartford Disability Insurance plan. As a Vocational Rehabilitation Case Manager, you will be responsible for review of ADA (leave), short term, and long term disability claims for possible intervention / assistance with case management. The focus of this position is to assist disabled employees stay at work as well as in returning to work with their own or other employers. This position will also assist the claim examining staff in evaluating vocational information to determine eligibility for benefits under group disability plans. This position requires a sound understanding of clinical issues and functional capabilities as they apply to disabled employees ability to work.

Requirements

  • Masters degree in Counseling or related field
  • Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) certification is required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of vocational assessment tools, labor market analysis, job placement strategies, and return-to-work protocols.
  • Strong understanding of workers' compensation laws, ADA regulations, and other relevant disability-related legislation.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage a diverse caseload, and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and case management software.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
  • Ability to empathize with individuals facing challenging circumstances and provide supportive guidance.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer 3-5 years of experience in vocational case management, disability management, or rehabilitation counseling, preferably within an insurance or workers' compensation setting.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough vocational assessments to determine individuals' skills, aptitudes, interests, physical limitations, and transferable work abilities
  • Develop individualized vocational rehabilitation plans that align with the individual's capabilities, company policies, and relevant legal frameworks.
  • Coordinate and manage a caseload of injured workers, providing ongoing support, guidance, and monitoring throughout the rehabilitation process.
  • Identify suitable employment opportunities and assist individuals with job search strategies, resume writing, interview preparation, and job placement.
  • Collaborate effectively with medical professionals, employers, attorneys, and other stakeholders to ensure a cohesive and supportive return-to-work process.
  • Provide ergonomic assessments and recommendations for workplace modifications to accommodate individuals with disabilities.
  • Educate individuals and employers on vocational rehabilitation services, disability management, and relevant legal compliance (e.g., ADA, Workers' Compensation).
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all case activities, progress, and outcomes in accordance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of vocational plans, making adjustments as necessary to optimize outcomes.
