About The Position

Provide and coordinate instruction of prevocational and vocational subjects designed to prepare students for entry into school-to-career programs and on-campus or on-the-job training. Develop personal, social, and work adjustment programs to reinforce strengths and reduce challenges for students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with special education endorsement or a special education certificate
  • 60 clock hours of training resulting in a certificate of completion and attendance from the in-service provider. The training must include training in job development and job analysis, student assessment and job match, job placement and job site training
  • Ability to coordinate with outside agencies, businesses, and community organizations
  • Experience coordinating support for students with severe multiple disabilities in vocational preparation settings
  • Leadership skills in working with Admission, Review, Dismissal committees to develop appropriate programs to support vocational and transition needs and services
  • Strong organizational, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of resources available for students with various disabilities
  • Ability to maintain structure and routine for students with high demands
  • Experience in special education

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction in academic concepts related to employment, social skills for successful employment and community adjustment, and functional skills to achieve maximum independence.
  • Utilize transitional curriculum and strategies in instruction.
  • Prepare information and documents for ARD committee meetings and participate in meetings.
  • Investigate and utilize community resources for job training stations.
  • Develop community and/or schoolwork stations for students ready for job placement.
  • Assist in coordinating the in-school educational program.
  • Work with the Texas Workforce Solutions to secure services during and after high school.
  • Determine special needs of students with disabilities in the vocational setting and conduct employability skills seminars for assigned students.
  • Adapt instructional strategies to meet the needs of each individual in age-appropriate ways.
  • Consistently monitor student achievement through formal and informal methods.
  • Collaborate with counselors in scheduling other academic classes for students.
  • Work with students, parents, school officials and agencies to facilitate transition to independent living and assist students with post-high school social services and educational agencies.
  • Maintain open communication with principal and staff to assure support for students.
  • Collaborate with the functional academic program to assess skills addressed in cross curriculum settings to ensure success in work and transition to post high school settings.
  • Develop positive public relations through the use of the local press and personal communications and develop presentations to be presented to local civic organizations.
  • Counsel with parents and students on the purposes and expected outcomes of the program and report progress to parents and school personnel at specified intervals.
  • Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional learning and participate in professional learning to improve performance.
  • Assist in training and supervising the daily duties of vocational job coaches.
