About The Position

VMware Tanzu Customer Services Consultant Customer Services Consultant (CSCs) are key customer-facing technical advisors for VMware Tanzu. This strategic role bridges customer business needs with Tanzu's capabilities, designing viable solutions, articulating tangible value, and prescribing optimal cloud-native architectures and consumption strategies. CSCs help drive successful Tanzu adoption in focus accounts, influencing customers, Product Management, and leadership, while shaping the product roadmap. The CSC role integrates: Platform, Application & Data Architecture & Operations: Deep expertise in Modern Enterprise Platforms, Application & Data Architecture with a special focus on VCF-based Private Clouds. Customer Adoption: Orchestrating initial, high-impact adoption in strategic accounts. Tanzu Product Feedback Loop: Communicating field learnings and blockers to Product Management to influence the roadmap.

Requirements

  • BA/BS required with 12+ Years Equivalent Industry Experience or MA/MS with 8+ Years Equivalent Industry Experience.
  • Ten (10) or more years of Information Technology experience.
  • AppDev / Platform Architecture Team Leadership OR pre-sales customer facing experience
  • Strong listening and question based consultative skills.
  • Strong relationship building skills.
  • Ability to effectively present to audiences and adjust to level of role and understanding.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly.
  • Broad, domain level architectural understanding of: Enterprise Platform & Modern Application Architecture Data services for cloud-native applications, including transactional, analytical, and streaming workloads
  • Experience modernizing legacy applications using Spring patterns, cloud-native design principles, and API-driven architectures.
  • AI-Enabled Application Platform Design Application Modernization & Cloud-Native Transformation DevSecOps, Reliability & Platform Operations

Nice To Haves

  • Architecture and operational experience with Tanzu Platform on VCF.
  • Experience positioning and integrating Tanzu Data services (e.g., PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ, GemFire, Greenplum) into application platforms.
  • Knowledge of data lifecycle management, resiliency, scaling, and operational best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of Spring Framework, Spring Boot, and Spring-based microservices architectures.
  • Solution design, implementation, and consultation experience.
  • Advanced certifications (Examples - CKA, CKAD, etc.) are a plus.
  • Government security clearance at multiple levels is highly desirable

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Customer Architecture: Design and lead phased adoption and consumption plans across Tanzu Platform, Tanzu Data, and Tanzu Spring, defining future-state cloud-native architectures spanning application, data, and platform layers.
  • Value Engineering & Business Alignment: translate customer business objectives (e.g., accelerated time-to-market, developer productivity, resiliency, and cost optimization) into ROI-driven solutions leveraging Tanzu Platform, Spring-based application modernization, and Tanzu Data services.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Sales, Pre-Sales, Professional Services, and ecosystem Partners to ensure cohesive execution across Tanzu Platform, Data, and Spring from architectural strategy through production implementation.
  • Technical Expertise: Maintain deep hands-on expertise across the Tanzu portfolio, with particular focus on Tanzu Platform operations, Spring application frameworks, and cloud-native data services.
  • Hands-On Engagement & Scalable Engagement: Lead high-fidelity technical engagements—including architecture workshops, POCs, and pilots—and develop production-grade reference architectures, design patterns, and operational runbooks for Tanzu Platform, Tanzu Data, and Tanzu Spring at scale.
