About The Position

We are seeking a hands-on VMware Horizon consultant to support the migration of persistent, per‑user Windows 10 virtual desktops to Windows 11 in an on‑premises Horizon environment. This role will focus on planning and executing the upgrade strategy for existing user‑assigned VMs, validating application and user profile compatibility, and ensuring a stable production rollout with minimal user disruption. The consultant will work on our Service Desk and partner closely with Infrastructure and Security teams to execute the migration and document standard operating procedures for ongoing support.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands‑on experience supporting on‑prem VMware Horizon VDI, specifically persistent, user‑assigned desktops.
  • Proven experience delivering Windows 11 migrations using clean installs, including pilot execution, user transition, and production rollout.
  • Strong expertise in Windows 11 Enterprise builds, configuration standards, and security baselines.
  • Experience planning and executing user migration activities (data, settings, application access) in persistent VDI environments.
  • Deep troubleshooting skills related to application compatibility, profile behavior, and post‑migration user issues.
  • Solid understanding of end‑user performance, login, and stability diagnostics in VMware Horizon.
  • Strong Microsoft 365 application support capability (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive) in virtual desktop environments.
  • Proficiency with PowerShell for automation, validation, and remediation during migration waves.
  • Experience operating in highly regulated or locked‑down enterprise environments.
  • Ability to provide hands‑on end‑user support during pilot and migration phases, both remote and in person.
  • Ability to support on-site migrations at a secondary office location (Iselin, NJ) as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Execute a structured migration of our Windows 10 user base, upgrading their assigned persistent VMs.
  • Collect feedback and analyze performance, stability, and usability issues.
  • Refine configuration based on ongoing deployment results.
  • Support phased production rollout with: User communications and readiness validation, Cutover support and early life stabilization, Clear rollback or recovery procedures
  • Produce documentation including: Windows 11 upgrade procedures for persistent Horizon VMs, Troubleshooting guides for common post-upgrade issues, Support handoff materials for Service Desk team
