Vivarium Support Technician I - Cage Wash

About The Position

This role is responsible for cleaning and sterilizing cages, equipment, supplies, and rooms within the vivarium. The technician will also prepare refuse for disposal or incineration, operate specialized equipment, perform housekeeping duties, monitor safety equipment, and manage the flow of supplies and equipment through the cage wash area.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand the duration of shift
  • Ability to perform repetitive physical activities such as: pushing and pulling wheeled racks and carts, utilize a ladder or step stool, lift above shoulder level, reaching, stooping, and bending

  • Related experience working in supply chain, materials management or warehouse roles

Responsibilities

  • Cleans & sterilizes cages, equipment, supplies, rooms (primary and secondary enclosures), etc.
  • Prepares refuse for disposal or incineration.
  • Operates pressure washer and industrial cage washers.
  • Performs and documents functions performed in the appropriate log.
  • Cleans and maintains all cages, automatic water lines, and other related equipment.
  • Completes daily and periodic housekeeping of assigned areas which may include bathrooms, locker rooms, and surgery spaces within the vivarium.
  • Restocks and maintains appropriate inventory levels of supplies in assigned areas.
  • Monitors first aid kits, eye wash stations and functioning emergency exit on cage was equipment.
  • Monitors & maintains washers & sterilizers in proper working condition.
  • Delivers clean and/or dirty equipment and cages to and from cage wash as required.
  • Maintains efficient organization & flow of supplies & equipment through cage wash area.
