About The Position

Requirements

  • Knowledge of special education programs for visually-impaired students.
  • Knowledge of methods and strategies for assessing and teaching visually-impaired students from birth through age 21.
  • Knowledge of current special education laws, regulations, and case law.
  • Knowledge of Braille instruction.
  • Ability to work effectively with visually-impaired students.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with parents, school staff, and related agencies.
  • Ability to plan teaching strategies and set appropriate objectives to enhance access to the core curriculum and meet state standards.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate assessments and diagnostic information.
  • Ability to express ideas effectively both verbally and in writing, including writing summaries, evaluations, and reports.
  • Ability to design and conduct in-service training for district staff and parents.
  • Ability to explore, develop, and implement public and community program options.

Responsibilities

  • Assist parents in understanding their children's abilities and disabilities using appropriate assessment tools and goal development.
  • Stay current with clinical, theoretical, and educational research as well as state and federal regulations for visually-impaired programs.
  • Provide in-service education about programs for the visually impaired to district personnel and parents.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-services as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
