About The Position

The Visual Dimensional Inspector is responsible for visually and dimensionally inspecting castings to ensure compliance with customer specifications. This role also ensures that only necessary reworking of parts is performed. The inspector will work with various tools and equipment to identify surface defects and verify dimensional integrity, supporting engineering efforts to resolve quality issues.

Requirements

  • Visual and dimensional inspection skills to use precision measuring inspection tools, demonstrated by classroom training and/or work experience.
  • Ability to read, interpret and follow specifications on Tech Cards and other technical material.
  • Ability to write and perform arithmetic calculations.
  • Ability to perform dimensional inspection applying proper techniques.
  • Ability to read precision hand tools.
  • 20/30 correctable vision, and satisfactory passage of depth perception and color vision tests.
  • Ability to provide work direction and training.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to lift and/or maneuver objects weighing thirty to fifty pounds and occasionally up to eighty pounds.
  • Ability to work in difficult working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and awkward physical positions for extended periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of Visual/Dimensional course at time of hire preferred.
  • Ultrasound Course as directed.

Responsibilities

  • Visually inspect castings for surface defects after preliminary and final heat treating.
  • Dimensionally inspect castings using templates, micrometers, height gauges, calipers, and ultrasound to ensure conformance to blueprint and tech card specifications.
  • Check casting hardness per heat treat specifications using Brinell, Rockwell, and other instruments.
  • Mark castings to identify areas needing rework to meet dimensional specifications.
  • Work with Straightening, Salvage, and Targeting areas.
  • Support engineering by establishing and evaluating inspection techniques, and identifying and resolving problems of non-conformance to specifications.
  • Enter dimensional data into the computer for engineering purposes.
  • Prepare reports and information on dimensional issues.
  • Adhere to plant and department safety rules and operate all equipment and tools safely.
  • Identify and report safety problems.
  • Complete a variety of logs and records.
  • Provide training and work direction to others as directed.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
