About The Position

DreamWorks Animation is seeking adventurous and growth-minded individuals to join their team as a Visual Development Intern for Spring 2027. This program offers students and recent graduates hands-on experience in TV and Feature animated productions, working alongside creative leaders and artists. The studio values diverse experiences, frequent communication, transparency, and trust, fostering an inclusive and collaborative culture. Interns will be immersed in productions, gaining practical skills and participating in various development workshops, speaker series, and community outreach opportunities. Requirements

  • Strong skills in Photoshop.
  • Pursuing an Associate, Bachelor or Graduate degree at a College/University (or equivalent), or be a recent graduate (within six months of graduation date).
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be willing to work in Glendale, California.
  • Ability to provide own relocation, housing and transportation.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with 3D tools (Maya, Blender, ZBrush) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Imagine and propose ideas for the visual appearance of animated worlds based on story, characters, and action.
  • Utilize reference, illustration, drawing, design skills, and animation/3D tools (like Maya) to build visuals that convey envisioned world aesthetics.
  • Experience visual development in a production environment over a 10-week span.
  • Work closely with Production Designers and mentors on assigned productions.
  • Develop concepts from initial designs to final designs by pulling reference, crafting mood boards, and designing sets, props, and color keys.
  • Ask questions, clarify notes, and ensure designs are completed according to feedback.
  • Consistently meet deadlines and communicate work progress to supervisors and production staff.
