About The Position

Holyoke Public Schools is seeking a Visual Arts Teacher to meet and instruct assigned classes. The teacher will plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students, employing a variety of instructional techniques and media. A key responsibility is to create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students. The role involves guiding the learning process towards curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons, and implementing the district's philosophy of education. The teacher will regularly assess student accomplishments, provide progress reports, and maintain accurate records. Additionally, the position requires availability to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day, planning and supervising assignments for teacher aides and volunteers, and striving to maintain and improve professional competence. Attendance at staff meetings and service on staff committees are also expected, along with other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • At least one year of full-time teaching experience
  • Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply student performance data to instructional planning and execution
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent teamwork skills
  • Required license(s):Visual Arts

Responsibilities

  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students and employs a variety of instructional techniques and media.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and – in harmony with the goals – establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Strive to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education, instructional goals, and objectives.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested.
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with department heads, evaluates their job performance.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attend staff meetings and serves on staff committee as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
