About The Position

The Visual Arts Instructor creates and develops new and unique curricula and instructs students ranging from age two to adult in specialty art programs. The ideal candidate is passionate about community-based art programs and will have 3–6 years of teaching experience in one or more art mediums (i.e., sculpting, painting, drawing, ceramics).

Requirements

  • Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3–6 years of teaching experience in one or more art mediums (i.e., sculpting, painting, drawing, ceramics).
  • American Red Cross CPR/AED certification
  • Valid Driver’s License

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates with 6+ years of experience may be offered up to $45/hour.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement lesson plans within program guidelines.
  • Explain and demonstrate techniques and methods of the specialty area.
  • Assist students in the development of their skills pertaining to their specialty area of practice.
  • Maintain a safe, clean classroom environment.
  • Provide positive and professional communication with customers.
  • Maintain emergency forms and dispense District-approved required medication if necessary.
  • Take attendance and maintain sign in sheets.
  • Follow emergency procedures as outlined in the facility Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
  • Follow and implement PDHP behavior management policies.
  • Implement and document behavior management plans within Park District guidelines.
  • Provide direction to Teacher’s Aide and/or North Suburban Special Recreation Aide.
