About The Position

We are seeking a highly qualified, energetic, engaging, and dynamic Visual Arts educator to join our elementary school community. The ideal candidate will be committed to student-centered learning and creating an environment where every student can explore, create, take risks, and develop their unique artistic voice. Our elementary visual arts program is grounded in Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB), and preference will be given to candidates with experience or demonstrated understanding of TAB and choice-based art education. The successful candidate will foster student agency, creativity, independence, and a lifelong appreciation for the visual arts. This position is available August 24, 2026. Requirements

  • Valid Connecticut Visual Arts Educator Certification (042) or eligibility for certification.
  • Strong knowledge of elementary visual arts pedagogy, materials, techniques, and artistic processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to create an energetic, engaging, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, organization, and classroom management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Elementary visual arts teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience with or demonstrated understanding of Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB) or other choice-based, student-centered approaches preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and facilitate engaging, standards-based visual arts instruction aligned with the district curriculum.
  • Implement student-centered, choice-based instruction consistent with the principles of TAB.
  • Facilitate opportunities for students to explore materials, techniques, concepts, and artistic processes based on their interests and developmental needs.
  • Foster student agency, creativity, problem-solving, independence, and artistic decision-making.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs, abilities, and interests of all learners.
  • Introduce students to a variety of media, artistic processes, artists, cultures, and contemporary art practices.
  • Use observation, assessment, reflection, and feedback to support student growth and inform instruction.
  • Make interdisciplinary connections that enhance student learning and engagement.
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning related to visual arts education, TAB/choice-based teaching, elementary pedagogy, and student-centered practices.
  • Collaborate with visual arts colleagues and other educators to support student learning and program development.
  • Participate actively in professional learning, department meetings, and district initiatives.
  • Reflect on instructional practices and student outcomes to continuously improve teaching effectiveness.
  • Create an energetic, welcoming, inclusive, and student-centered studio environment where students feel comfortable experimenting and taking creative risks.
  • Establish clear routines and expectations that promote student independence, collaboration, and responsible use of materials.
  • Maintain an organized, accessible, and engaging art studio that supports student choice and exploration.
  • Teach and reinforce safe and responsible use and care of art materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Foster a culture where all students see themselves as capable and valued artists.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and other specialists to support interdisciplinary learning.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and administrators.
  • Support opportunities to exhibit and celebrate student artwork within the school and community.
  • Manage and maintain art supplies, materials, equipment, and inventory.
  • Participate in school events and district initiatives as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by school or district administration.
