About The Position

The Danforth Art School, part of Framingham State University, is seeking experienced visual art instructors to teach children in Elementary and Middle School levels. The Danforth Art School provides high-quality visual art classes in a variety of media and experience levels for adults, teens, and children. The school's mission is to offer an inviting and inspiring setting for students of all ages and levels to explore studio art practices, fostering community through active engagement with museum exhibitions, excellent instruction, and shared experiences.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience teaching art to youth
  • Bachelor's Degree in Visual Art fields, Education or related fields
  • Demonstrated evidence of artistic expertise

Responsibilities

  • Designing expansive lessons for children in Elementary and Middle School levels.
  • Providing developmentally appropriate skill and concept building in visual art.
  • Utilizing museum exhibitions in study when appropriate.
  • Teaching classes typically 2-3 hours in duration, offered once a week after school and on weekends during Fall, Winter, and Spring.
  • Teaching classes during the Summer Arts Program, which run weekly for 6 hours a day.
  • Teaching classes during school vacation weeks, typically as 2 full-day workshops.
  • Serving for several weeks during the summer program in addition to year-round programming.
