Visitor Services Staff Member
About The Position
The Visitor Services Staff Member at the MIT List Visual Arts Center is responsible for providing a welcoming and positive experience for visitors to the international contemporary art museum located on MIT's Cambridge campus. This role involves greeting and orienting visitors, offering information about exhibitions and the museum, ensuring artwork safety by enforcing protocols, maintaining gallery security, operating technical exhibition elements, managing opening and closing procedures, keeping gallery and desk areas tidy, tracking visitor attendance, handling catalog sales, and assisting with special events and exhibitions. The position also requires participation in exhibition trainings, technical walkthroughs, customer service training, and staff meetings.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
- Experience working with the public in-person
- Technical proficiency with audiovisual equipment and various media
- Demonstrated interest in contemporary art
- Ability to maintain a stationary position for extended periods
- Ability to lift and move objects up to 25 pounds
- Ability to apply 10 pounds of force in pushing, pulling, and locking
- Flexibility with shift coverage and co-worker requests
- Strong multitasking and problem-solving abilities
- Familiarity with MIT campus and policies, particularly regarding accessibility and non-discrimination
- Adherence to established dress code
