About The Position

The Cape Fear Museum is seeking a Visitor Services Assistant to engage with the public and help create a welcoming and meaningful museum experience. Our front desk staff members serve as the first point of contact for Museum visitors and members. This highly visible position greets all visitors in person and by telephone, provides information about the Museum, and answers or directs inquiries as needed. In addition, the role uses the Museum’s point-of-sale system (Altru) to process admission fees and prepare daily settlement and visitor reports. Strong interpersonal skills, friendliness, and a positive attitude while representing the Museum are essential for success in this position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and at least one year of related experience in customer service or front line public-facing role; or an equivalent combination of training and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Greets and assists visitors and other community members by creating a welcoming, friendly, and professional environment and serves as an advocate and representative for the museum and New Hanover County.
  • Performs opening and closing museum procedures to include cash counting, operating the point-of-sale system and completing end-of-day reporting.
  • Processes admission and program fees, sells memberships, checks-in school and other groups and completes data entry work.
  • Answers calls, directs calls to appropriate parties, and takes messages for others.
  • Prepares documents and forms which includes composing and typing correspondence; choosing and completing appropriate forms and applications; and compiling information and creating reports.
  • Enters, retrieves, and maintains data on computer system
  • Monitors and assists visitors in the Museum’s retail kiosk and competes financial transactions.
  • Assists with the visual appeal, cleanliness, and organization of the admissions desk, lobby area, and Museum’s retail kiosk.
  • Communicates information about the Museum, memberships, events, programs, planetarium shows, and exhibits to the visiting public.
  • Assists supports other units with special projects.
  • Performs work with regular and predictable attendance consistently meeting the scheduling needs as required by the county.
  • Performs work during emergency/disaster situations.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
