About The Position

The Visitor Service Attendant (VSA) meets, greets, and directs facility patrons and visitors, either in person or by telephone. This role involves performing a variety of customer service functions, including initial greetings, answering and forwarding calls, checking facility users in, and issuing passes to various recreational services. The VSA provides specific recreational information to the public, answers questions about programs, suggests appropriate programs, explains rules, regulations, program fees, and schedules, and provides directions. The position also involves collecting money, issuing receipts, maintaining a clean and safe facility, performing daily cleaning of gym equipment, managing fitness centre laundry, and providing back-up for the Programming and Events team. Additionally, the VSA maintains positive interactions with customers of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities, uses computer programs to create notices and signs, communicates with staff for interdepartmental efficiency, operates standard office equipment, communicates supply needs, sorts and files documents, maintains confidentiality, and ensures a clean and professional appearance. The role also includes shadowing and training new staff, working in compliance with OH&S acts and regulations, using personal protective equipment, reporting hazards, and acting as a safety advocate in emergencies.

Requirements

  • Flexibility to work daytime, evening and weekend shifts is required.
  • Previous experience in cash handling and customer service.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills. internet, email, word, excel, data entry and electronic time sheets is required.
  • The ability to lift 20kg (45lbs) and the physical ability to perform the duties of the role.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Successful applicant must provide proof of qualifications.
  • Applicants with international education will be required to include an Academic Credential Assessment with application.

  • A valid Standard First Aid–CPR C certificate is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of customer service functions, including performing initial greetings, answering and forwarding calls, checking facility users in, and issuing passes to various recreational services.
  • Provide specific recreational information to the public, including answering questions about programs offered, suggesting appropriate programs for the individual’s needs, explaining rules, regulations, programs fees and schedule to users and providing directions as necessary in person or over the phone.
  • Collects money, issues receipts and account for all money received.
  • Demonstrate a positive and inclusive attitude through a display of, service, cooperation, hospitality, and professionalism.
  • Maintain a clean and safe facility.
  • Responsible for daily cleaning of gym equipment and managing the fitness centre laundry.
  • Provide back-up for the Programming and Events team when needed.
  • Maintain positive interaction and effectively and tactfully deal with customers of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships with other staff, internal customers, and facility tenants.
  • Use computer programs available to edit and print recreational facility notices, signs and posters material.
  • Communicate and coordinate with appropriate staff members and supervisors to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations.
  • Operate standard office equipment including copier, fax, filing systems, phones, cash register, and computer.
  • Communicate needed supplies while maintaining an organized work environment.
  • Sort and file documents and records.
  • Maintain a high standard of confidentiality.
  • Maintain a clean and professional appearance.
  • Shadow and train all new staff.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S acts and regulations.
  • Use personal protective equipment and clothing as directed by the employer.
  • Report workplace hazards and dangers.
