About The Position

This job posting is for the State of Hawaii, Department of Transportation (DOT). The Visitor Information Program Assistant III plans, assigns, and reviews the work of lower-level Visitor Information Program Assistants. This role includes conducting on-the-job training, resolving operational problems, preparing operational reports, and handling or referring complaints. The position also involves evaluating subordinate performance, recommending leave requests, preparing supply requisitions, maintaining daily logs of operational activities at airport and harbor terminals, participating in special greeting assignments, and conducting airport or harbor tours. This role is in addition to the duties of the next lower level of this series.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • High degree of verbal skill
  • Two (2) years work experience which demonstrated positive evidence that applicants possess patience, tact, and an even temper in meeting and dealing with others
  • Supervisory aptitude (demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects of supervision)
  • Must be willing and able to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint-based criminal history record check and not have been convicted, or found "not guilty by reason of insanity," of a disqualifying criminal offense within ten years from the date of the application.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, assigns and reviews the work of lower level Visitor Information Program Assistants
  • Conducts on-the-job training of subordinates as assigned and as needed
  • Resolves operational problems except for unusual or complex cases which are referred to the supervisor
  • Prepares and compiles operational reports
  • Receives and resolves complaints or refers them to appropriate office as necessary
  • Evaluates the work performance of subordinates
  • Recommends approval or disapproval of requests for leaves of absence
  • Prepares requisitions for supplies and other items
  • Maintains daily log of all operational activities at airport and harbor terminals
  • Participates in special greeting assignments
  • Conducts airport or harbor tours as required
