About The Position

This position is for a Visiting Technical Instructor of Welding located in Montrose, CO. The role involves teaching welding processes, developing curriculum, assessing student performance, managing program budgets, and coordinating with industry representatives. The instructor will also be involved in student recruitment, advisement, and placement, as well as participating in college committees and events. Requirements

  • Certificate from an accredited institution in a related field.
  • Minimum of 4,000 hours of experience in construction trades in the last 7 years.
  • Experience in all processes of welding, including shielded metal arc, oxy-fuel, fabrication & blueprints, gas-metal arc, pipe welding, flux core and automation.
  • Excellent organization, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Positive and enthusiastic attitude.
  • Ability to verify U.S. employment eligibility.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or higher in a related field.
  • AWS Certified.
  • Evidence of teaching ability and/or previous teaching experience in the field.
  • Career and Technical Education Credential.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving the levels of access and success for underrepresented students within higher education.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 15 credit hours per semester and maintain 5 hours of office time per week.
  • Develop innovative curriculum that meets the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience in welding, using current equipment and technology.
  • Assess student performance based on industry-related standards.
  • Determine program needs and maintain program budget, including purchasing and cost control.
  • Interact professionally with students, business and industry representatives, educators, and the public.
  • Assist in student recruitment, advisement, placement, and development of cooperative work experience opportunities.
  • Serve as a representative of the department by participating in committees, task forces, and events.
  • Advise students, maintain student files and paperwork (job sheets, registration, intent to graduate).
  • Coordinate industry engagement with local employers for advisory committees, internships, and other industry-specific needs.
  • Perform all responsibilities and instructional duties in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations, and CMU Tech/CMU policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the maintenance of appropriate approvals and accreditation, and develop curriculum in step with industry and state requirements.
  • Promote a positive collegiate atmosphere and develop positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Perform other duties as required.
