About The Position

This position is for a Visiting Technical Instructor of Welding with a passion for teaching the next generation. The role requires extensive experience in all processes of welding, including shielded metal arc, oxy-fuel, fabrication & blueprints, gas-metal arc, pipe welding, flux core, and automation. The position is located in Montrose, CO.

Requirements

  • Certificate from an accredited institution in a related field.
  • Minimum of 4,000 hours of experience in construction trades in the last 7 years.
  • Excellent organization, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Positive and enthusiastic attitude.
  • Ability to verify U.S. employment eligibility.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or higher in a related field.
  • AWS Certified.
  • Evidence of teaching ability and/or previous teaching experience in the field.
  • Career and Technical Education Credential.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving the levels of access and success for underrepresented students within higher education.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 15 credit hours per semester, including lecture and lab instruction.
  • Maintain 5 hours of office time per week.
  • Develop innovative curriculum independently and collaboratively to meet diverse student needs.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience in welding, using current equipment and technology to enhance instruction.
  • Apply working knowledge and skill of up-to-date industrial trade principles, methods, and techniques.
  • Assess student performance based on industry-related standards and expectations.
  • Determine program needs and manage program budget, including purchasing and cost control.
  • Exhibit knowledge of industry-utilized construction equipment and its functionality.
  • Interact professionally with students, business and industry representatives, other educators, educational institutions, and the public.
  • Assist with student recruitment, advisement, placement, development of cooperative work experience opportunities, and student follow-up.
  • Serve as a department representative by participating in committees, task forces, and events at campus, college, and state levels.
  • Advise students, maintain student files and paperwork (job sheets, registration, intent to graduate).
  • Coordinate industry engagement with local employers for advisory committees, internships, and other industry-specific needs.
  • Perform all responsibilities and instructional duties in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations, and CMU Tech/CMU policies and procedures.
  • Ensure maintenance of appropriate approvals and accreditation.
  • Maintain and develop curriculum in step with industry and state requirements.
  • Promote a positive collegiate atmosphere and develop positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Perform other duties as required.
