About The Position

The Department of History at the College of the Holy Cross invites applications for a visiting part-time faculty position to teach two sections of Native American History 1: The Indians' New World (19 students each, fully enrolled) during the fall 2026 semester. This course is a survey of Native American history from the pre-Columbian era through the mid-19th century. The course explores questions about American assumptions regarding Native history, their presence or absence in national and local narratives, life in North America before 1492, Native American reactions to European settler colonialism, and the diverse experiences shaped by sex, age, and geographical location. Themes include trade, work, war, disease, gender, and religion. The course begins with theories of origin and life before 1492 and concludes with forced "removals" in the mid-19th century.

Requirements

Expertise in Native American History.
Ability to teach undergraduate students.
Commitment to inclusive pedagogies as informed by current practice and scholarship in the field.
