About The Position

The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a full-time, 9-month appointment for a one-year appointment as an Open Rank Visiting Lecturer, beginning August 10, 2026. The department seeks to hire a generalist in Chemistry, specifically an individual with a specialization in any area of chemistry with knowledge and experience teaching in at least two of the department’s undergraduate degree concentrations: analytical, inorganic, organic, chemical biology, and physical chemistry. Graduate teaching is a possibility, depending on the Visiting Lecturer’s areas of specialty and department need. The successful candidate will be teaching a workload of three undergraduate lecture sections per Spring and Fall Semester, which may include coordinating student assistants, and participation in department service. All Visiting Lecturers are reviewed annually. Workload is determined by the Department Chair and University policies. The University of New Mexico is the premier research university in New Mexico, a Carnegie Highest Research Activity Institution, located in Albuquerque, NM.

Requirements

  • BA for Lecturer I in Chemistry or related field completed by start date of appointment August 10, 2026
  • MA for Lecturer II in Chemistry or related field completed by start date of appointment August 10, 2026
  • PhD for Lecturer III in Chemistry or related field completed by start date of appointment August 10, 2026
  • Cover letter describing the applicant’s qualifications as they relate to the minimum and preferred criteria
  • Current curriculum vita (please include email address and telephone number)
  • One-page teaching statement
  • Official certification of successful completion of all degree requirements prior to their initial employment with UNM
