About The Position

The Department of Physical & Environmental Sciences at Colorado Mesa University invites applications for two (2) Visiting Instructor positions in Geosciences beginning August 2026. Successful candidates will teach a range of 100-level introductory geoscience courses that may include GEOL 103 Weather and Climate, GEOL 107 Natural Hazards, GEOL 108 Water, People, and Environment, and/or GEOL 111/111L Introduction to Physical Geology (lecture/lab). The ideal candidate will be team-oriented and committed to excellence in undergraduate education and mentoring. They will contribute to a curriculum that integrates field, laboratory, and computational approaches to prepare students for careers in industry and academia.

Requirements

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Geology or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for and effectiveness in teaching introductory geoscience courses

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to teach upper-level courses such as Groundwater, Geophysics, and/or Structural Geology

Responsibilities

  • Teach a range of 100-level introductory geoscience courses.
  • Contribute to a curriculum that integrates field, laboratory, and computational approaches to prepare students for careers in industry and academia.
  • Participate in the department’s 6-week Geosciences Summer Field Camp (optional).
