These programs prepare current and emerging leaders to navigate the complexities of healthcare delivery, policy, and innovation. This position represents a strategic investment in expanding the school’s capabilities in health information technology, healthcare data informatics, artificial intelligence, and blockchain-enabled systems, while strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration with the Information Systems discipline. The Health Administration programs in the Business School of the University of Colorado Denver invites applications for non-tenure-track faculty at the rank of Associate Professor, Teaching Track., spanning Health Administration and Information Systems. An individual in this position will develop and teach courses in Health Information Technology, AI applications in healthcare delivery, further develop new curricula through unique pedagogical techniques, maintain AACSB professional or scholarly qualifications in their area of expertise, and perform service activities.

Requirements

  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • Applicants must meet the CU Denver Business School definition of Associate Professor, Teaching Tenure Track: Business School definition: Associate Professors, CTT hold a terminal degree in a relevant field and have deep experience in their teaching area. There must be evidence of teaching effectiveness at the university level as well as the potential for service and research/scholarship that supports the program and the school. They must demonstrate ongoing relevance through intellectual contributions in research/scholarship or be within five years of receiving terminal degrees.
  • Terminal degree (PhD, DBA, or equivalent) in relevant field to health information technology from an accredited (or equivalent) University satisfies a terminal degree requirement in a relevant field.
  • The applicant must show significant experience in HIT or closely related fields. This can be shown through some combination of the following: (i) courses developed and/or taught in HIT or closely related areas, (ii) publications in peer-reviewed journals in HIT or closely related areas, and/or (iii) non-academic work experience related to HIT.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level, as supported by teaching evaluations and at least four semesters or six quarters of experience teaching in health administration and information systems, or a closely related field. Instructional experiences while a student (e.g., a teaching assistantship) can demonstrate teaching effectiveness only when the applicant was serving as the primary Instructor for the course. Serving as a tutor, grader, periodic guest lecturer, or similar roles cannot be used to demonstrate teaching effectiveness.
  • The applicant must show potential for teaching effectiveness. Typical indicators include past teaching/course evaluations, a documented history of developed courses/curricula, and/or pedagogical training.
  • The applicant should show recent intellectual contributions in research/scholarship or should be within 5 years of receiving their terminal degree. Some indicators satisfying this requirement may include: A premier journal publication (e.g., A rated on the ADBC list), OR; Two high-quality journal articles (e.g., A-rated on the ADBC list), OR; At least three academic refereed journal articles, or scholarly books, OR; A mixture of at least four refereed academic articles, scholarly books or papers, research grants, industry white papers, and other peer-reviewed research.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in health information technology, healthcare analytics, AI in healthcare, and blockchain applications.
  • Deliver courses in multiple modalities including in-person, hybrid, and online.
  • Develop course materials, support instructors with pedagogical expertise, maintain experiential learning components, and assist with applied projects.
  • Develop new courses and self-supporting programs in digital health and informatics.
  • Integrate industry standards such as HIMSS and regulatory frameworks.
  • Support interdisciplinary initiatives with Information Systems.
  • Mentor graduate and doctoral students.
  • Develop internships and applied learning partnerships.
  • Support career pathways in digital health.
  • Participate in committees and accreditation efforts.
  • Engage with advisory boards and recruitment efforts.
  • Be the academic lead for the Health Administration Research Consortium, coordinating research briefs, panels, and industry partners.
  • Maintain professional currency in AI, blockchain, and digital health; contribute to applied scholarship and industry engagement.
