About The Position

The UNM School of Law anticipates hiring a qualified Visiting Assistant Professor to teach criminal law courses during the Fall 2026 semester. The Visiting Assistant Professor will be responsible for teaching a section of Criminal Law I (approximately 30-35 students), a required first-year course, and Criminal Procedure I (approximately 20 students), a core upper-level elective. Offering a Juris Doctor degree, cross-disciplinary dual degrees, and a Master of Legal Studies, the University of New Mexico School of Law is nationally recognized for innovative classes that combine training in law practice with doctrinal instruction and a 10:1 student-to-faculty ratio. Requirements

J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school or an equivalent foreign legal degree.

Nice To Haves

Practice experience of at least two years in criminal defense, prosecution, or criminal appellate matters.
