About The Position

The Department of History and Social Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville is seeking a dynamic full-time, Visiting Assistant Professor in Sociology with an anticipated start date of August 24, 2026. Responsibilities for this position include teaching undergraduate courses, scholarly activity, and university and departmental service. This is a one year, 9-month position with a salary of $50,000 per academic year. This also comes with $500 in professional development funds to be used for conference or research travel or other acceptable professional expenses in the 2026/27 academic year. Additional professional development funds are available at the college and university levels through application.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in sociology, anthropology, or related field.
  • Two semesters of undergraduate teaching experience during or after completion of graduate school or two semesters as a graduate teaching assistant.
  • A commitment to undergraduate education and collaboration with students and faculty.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in sociology, anthropology, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching 7 undergraduate courses in the Department of History and Social Sciences, 3 in the fall, 4 in the spring.
  • Engagement in evidence-informed pedagogy to teach undergraduate students in classroom and laboratory settings.
  • Record of research or a willingness to develop in the area of Sociology.
  • Effective collaboration with colleagues across the university to complete tasks and goals.
