About The Position

The Department of Art & Design at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track, Visiting Assistant Professor of Art in Sculpture for a nine-month term beginning Fall 2026. The Department seeks a motivated and collaborative artist educator with expertise in three-dimensional art who is enthusiastic about teaching at a student-centered university. Candidates must demonstrate an active studio practice and exhibition record, college-level teaching experience, and commitment to working with a community of students, faculty, and staff. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate sculpture courses, participating in departmental meetings, and contributing to BFA and MFA reviews. Additional studio responsibilities involve managing the sculpture lab, including overseeing facilities and equipment, purchasing supplies, implementing training and safety protocols, and supervising graduate assistants and/or adjunct instructors. The teaching load consists of three studio courses in both the Fall and Spring semesters. The Department of Art & Design is committed to cross-disciplinary and collaborative initiatives, fostering community engagement, and mentoring students to become professionally driven artists, designers, scholars, and creative leaders. The department offers the following degrees: Bachelor of Fine Arts in Communication Design, Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art, Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art, Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art with Teacher Certification, and Master of Fine Arts. Exhibition spaces include the Weil Gallery, located in the Center for the Arts building on campus, and the forthcoming Downtown Gallery at 223 N. Chaparral St. The university’s location also provides convenient access to the metropolitan centers of Houston, San Antonio, and Austin, expanding opportunities for cultural engagement. Requirements

  • MFA with a demonstrated expertise in 3D/Sculpture
  • Evidence of an active professional record
  • Teaching experience at the university or college level
  • Ability to teach 3D foundations, undergraduate, and graduate Sculpture courses
  • Knowledge of current safety and health standards in Sculpture studios
  • Experience collaborating in a team-oriented work environment

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated teaching experience in at least one of the following at an intermediate and advanced levels: figurative sculpture, woodworking, fabrication, metal casting, soft-sculpture, installation
  • Demonstrated experience in 3D scanning, printing, and 3D equipment maintenance
  • Demonstrated experience incorporating emerging digital technologies into traditional 3D media
  • Ability to teach, mentor, and provide leadership to graduate students across disciplines
  • Knowledge of trends and demonstrable expertise in the history, theory, and contemporary field of Sculpture
