About The Position

The School of Music at Texas A&M University–Kingsville (TAMUK) is seeking a three-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Musicology. This role requires a creative and dedicated pedagogue and scholar who will collaborate with the Musicology Area Coordinator and other faculty to advance the School of Music's mission in performance, scholarship, education, and community engagement. TAMUK, located in Kingsville, Texas, is the oldest institution of higher learning in South Texas and a member of the Texas A&M University System, offering a wide range of academic programs and a strong commitment to student success, research, and community engagement.

Requirements

• Graduate degree in music history or musicology (Ph.D. preferred).
• Demonstrated record of relevant, successful university-level teaching.
• Established or emerging research profile.
• Ability to independently manage course design, administration, and grading.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to student success and retention.
• Compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures.
• Must perform all tasks and job responsibilities safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in musicology, including Western music history, History of Rock and Roll, Explorations in Music History, Introduction to Research in Music, Musicology Seminar, and Collegium musicum.
• Deliver instruction in various formats, including campus and online environments.
• Develop course materials such as syllabi, assignments, and assessments.
• Maintain high standards of teaching effectiveness and student engagement.
• Maintain scheduled Student Success hours.
• Support student retention in collaboration with the Musicology Coordinator and other faculty.
• Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and other service activities.
• Maintain currency in the field of Musicology.
• Engage in professional development opportunities.
