About The Position

The Department of History at The University of Memphis invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in Ancient History. This is a non-tenure track position with a term of one academic year (2026-2027), beginning August 17, 2026, through May 15, 2027. The successful candidate will be eligible for benefits. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Requirements

  • PhD is required at the time of appointment.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.

  • Sample syllabi for an undergraduate upper-division course and a graduate-level course.
  • Academic transcript.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate World History surveys.
  • Teach upper-division undergraduate courses in Greek and Roman history.
  • Teach courses in both classroom and online formats.
  • The teaching load is two courses per semester.
  • No service is required during the term of the appointment.
