About The Position

Samaritas is seeking a Visitation Coach for their Grand Rapids Foster Care program. This role involves providing individualized coaching to parents whose children have been removed from the home due to abuse or neglect. The Visitation Coach will support and enhance parental strengths, assist in acquiring new parenting skills, and ensure child safety during visitations. This is a person-focused, compassionate role within a faith-based organization committed to transforming lives.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in human services or related field required or high school degree and 2 years of experience in a human services field.
• Knowledge of child development.
• Automobile travel required.
• Valid unrestricted driver’s license with good driving record required.
• Valid proof of automobile insurance required.
• Use of a safe and clean vehicle.

Nice To Haves

• 1 year of experience in a day care setting or school setting strongly preferred.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule or nontraditional hours.

Responsibilities

• Using a strengths-based model, coach parents on needed parenting skills by modeling, instructing, and prompting.
• Assist parents in identifying their goals for visitations and follow up to review progress and reinforce strengths.
• Intervene as necessary to ensure child safety and ensure content of conversations is appropriate.
• Provide transportation for foster children to and from family visits.
• Supervise children during appointments either at home, office or at other appropriate sites.
• Observe parent/child interactions and closely document.
• Report strengths and concerns to the social worker with case responsibility.
• Provide auxiliary services related to center’s foster care program in accordance with center, division, organization, and contract requirements.
