Visitation Aide (Temp Per Diem)
About The Position
Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark is seeking a Temp Per Diem Visitation Aide to join their Supportive Visitation Services program. This role involves transporting children and/or parents to and from visitation locations, ensuring passenger safety, and maintaining the vehicle. The Visitation Aide may also supervise visits, document encounters, and communicate with various stakeholders including visitation specialists, parents, resource parents, and children. The position requires initiating and maintaining culturally sensitive communication with families, creating a safe and supportive environment for parent-child contact, and empowering family members. The role operates from a trauma-informed perspective and may involve advocating for families.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 1 year experience working with children & families, particularly families involved with welfare system and/or affected by trauma.
- Valid NJ Drivers License
- Thirty (30) semester hour credits from an accredited college, which must include twelve (12) semester hour credits in the behavioral sciences, may be substituted for the experience listed above.
Responsibilities
- Transporting children and/or parents to and from visitation locations
- Ensuring the safety of passengers
- Maintaining the vehicle
- Supervising visits, as needed
- Documenting transportation encounters and visits
- Communicating with visitation specialists, parents, resource parents, children, etc.
- Initiating and maintaining ongoing communication with families in a culturally sensitive manner utilizing a family's preferred language taking into consideration a family's faith and culture.
- Ensuring the environment for parent-child contact is safe, non-traumatizing, and promotes healthy attachment.
- Initiating and maintaining ongoing communication with DCP&P, other providers, and supports.
- Creating an environment that empowers family members, including parents, children, and caregivers to communicate their goals and needs.
- Utilizing various interviewing and/or communication techniques in a culturally competent manner.
- Recognizing non-verbal communication and maintaining good eye contact and posture.
- Advocating for parents/families as necessary and supporting them in advocating for themselves.
- Operating from a trauma-informed perspective
