Vision Mechanical Engineer II

CohuSan Diego, CA

About The Position

This role involves participating in all phases of the project, including design, testing, and integration. The engineer will design precision mechanical assemblies for industrial machine vision systems, including camera mounts, optical fixtures, illumination assemblies, protective enclosures, and precision alignment mechanisms. Responsibilities also include performing tolerance stack-up analysis and GD&T, applying DFM and DFA principles, prototyping and evaluating new mechanical concepts, and supporting the integration of cameras, optics, sensors, and lighting into automated machinery. The position requires conducting root cause investigations for mechanical and system performance issues, collaborating with suppliers to evaluate commercial components, generating engineering documentation (drawings, BOMs, ECOs), supporting prototype builds, validation testing, and manufacturing release, participating in design reviews, and supporting continuous product improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or comparable degree
  • At least two or more years of practical experience developing and integrating optical machine vision systems (experience with industrial cameras, lenses, mirrors, beam splitters, machine vision lighting, strobed LED illumination).
  • Experience should include working in an automated machinery environment.
  • Comfortable with large mechanical systems, hands-on person.
  • Proficient in design and modeling applications such as Solidworks, GD&T, Tolerance analysis, Thermal considerations and design for Manufacturing, Sheet metal, Machined parts, Aluminum extrusions, Tooling.
  • Knowledgeable in Mechanical, Electromechanical, Optical, and Automation Troubleshooting.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to provide direction or training to other team members.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently.
