About The Position

The Virtualization Engineer/Administrator supports the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) on the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) contract. The candidate will work on complex assignments and perform a wide range of VMware system administration activities with little to no direct supervision. They will provide root-cause analysis for recurring or critical problems and work closely with a team of system administrators, network engineers, and cybersecurity administrators to maintain a high-quality test environment for the Government customer. Responsibilities include performing vulnerability remediation and mitigations to reduce cybersecurity risks and ensure DoD compliance, conducting daily system monitoring, system backup and restoral, and application upgrades to ensure optimal and continuous system operations. The role also involves documenting necessary system changes and actions in appropriate systems of record, advising the Government customer on system status, optimization, and improvement efforts, and assisting the system administration team with the deployment of new virtual machines. This includes performing administration of virtualization environments, troubleshooting, break/fix activities, patching and remediation of servers, and system audit log reviews. Core duty hours are 0900 - 1500 hours with flexibility to arrive earlier/later Monday - Friday. Occasional off shift, extended or weekend support may be required, as well as occasional local travel to support off-site customers and projects.

Requirements

  • 10 or more years of general (full-time) work experience (may be reduced with completion of advanced education).
  • 5 or more years of directly related experience.
  • 1 or more years of experience working in a management or leadership role.
  • Experience installing vCenter Server Appliance including configuration and updates.
  • Experience with VMware vSphere 7.0 or higher, to include building, configuring, managing and troubleshooting virtual machines in enterprise-level environments.
  • Experience with software-defined networking (SDN).
  • A current DoD approved 8570 Level II certification such as Security+ CE.
  • An active DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • Strong understanding of troubleshooting and configuration of VMware to include protocols and switching, best-practice configurations, connectivity, and networking concepts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated experience briefing customers and management.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated understanding of the project management lifecycle and related processes.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis.
  • Experience configuring and managing HPE server products.
  • Familiarity with automation tools or scripting (e.g., PowerCLI, Ansible).
  • A VMware Certified Technical Associate or VMware Certified Professional certification.
  • Knowledge of Missile Defense, DoD communications systems and MDIOC operations.
  • A degree in an IT or Engineering related discipline.
