Virtual Mental Health Therapist (Part-Time)

Amae HealthRemote, California, CA
$48 - $68Remote

About The Position

Amae Health is a Series B, venture-backed Public Benefit Corporation that delivers specialty outpatient care for people living with severe mental illness (SMI), including schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar I disorder, and treatment-resistant depression. We design and operate high-acuity, in-person clinics across the United States. Our model integrates psychiatry, therapy, primary care, dietitians, and community health workers under one roof to deliver coordinated, longitudinal care for a population that has historically been fragmented across systems. Leading health systems collaborate with Amae to bring this model to their communities, including NewYork-Presbyterian, Cedars-Sinai, Mass General Brigham, Novant Health, and CommonSpirit Health. This role is for a Part-Time Virtual Mental Health Therapist (Fully Licensed or Associate-level) to support our members across California. In this fully virtual role, you'll deliver personalized, compassionate, high-quality group therapy to individuals living with serious mental illness (SMI), working as part of an interdisciplinary care team. The schedule for this role is three days a week, mornings and evenings, plus additional time for documentation and administrative work.

Requirements

  • 1 year of experience working with adult patients with severe mental illness (SMI)
  • Available weekday mornings and evenings (Pacific Time) to meet client needs
  • Active license or registration to practice as a therapist in California (e.g., LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, Licensed Psychologist, AMFT, ACSW, or APCC), with active NPI and Medicaid/Medicare enrollment. Both fully licensed and associate-level therapists are encouraged to apply
  • Committed to improving access to high-quality mental health services for the California SMI community
  • Ability to navigate challenging situations with professionalism
  • Thorough understanding of confidentiality and appropriate documentation standard.
  • Technologically savvy, comfortable using AI-based tools, and ability to learn and navigate new tools
  • Highly organized with the ability to work autonomously
  • Strong listening skills and excellent verbal communication

Responsibilities

  • Lead virtual group therapy sessions, facilitating engaging, clinically effective virtual groups for adults living with SMI, creating an environment that supports participation, connection, skill-building, and recovery.
  • Provide individual therapy when indicated as part of a member’s overall treatment plan.
  • Integrate evidence-based approaches such as CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, and other clinically appropriate interventions based on member needs.
  • Build therapeutic relationships and provide consistent support as members work toward recovery and functional goals.
  • Partner closely with psychiatry, primary care, nutrition, community health workers, and other members of the care team to ensure treatment is coordinated and cohesive.
  • Consider the social, behavioral, and environmental factors affecting each member’s health and partner with the broader care team to address barriers to treatment and recovery.
  • Complete timely, accurate documentation and uphold privacy, confidentiality, and clinical quality standards.
  • Participate in case consultation, interdisciplinary discussions, program development, and continuous improvement efforts across Amae’s clinical model.
