About The Position

AoPS Academy Virtual Campus is seeking a part-time Virtual Language Arts Instructor to teach elementary and middle school students in an after-school and weekend enrichment program. The role involves teaching engaging, participation-oriented classes using a provided curriculum, focusing on skill development rather than rote memorization. Instructors will work with small class sizes (average 12 students) of high-achieving, motivated learners in a live virtual classroom environment. The position requires strong content knowledge in reading, writing, and grammar, and the ability to foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The instructor will provide thoughtful feedback on student writing assignments and manage a virtual classroom effectively.

Requirements

• Must have a solid academic background in English and language arts.
• A bachelor’s degree in a humanities field is required, ideally related to language arts.
• Must have some experience using Zoom or similar video conferencing software and be comfortable managing a classroom in a virtual setting.
• Must have experience teaching or tutoring students at the K-12 level.
• Currently located in and authorized to work in the United States.
• Unable to offer sponsorship, including STEM-OPT and H-1B.

Nice To Haves

• A master’s degree or higher is preferred.
• Classroom teaching experience and some experience working with advanced students is preferred.
• Are a rock-star teacher with a passion for working with high-achieving students
• Are an engaging, enthusiastic instructor who can motivate gifted learners
• Have strong content knowledge in reading, writing, and grammar
• Aren’t afraid of student-led instruction, discussions, and allowing students to do the heavy lifting
• Have strong writing skills and can give thoughtful, thorough feedback on students’ writing assignments
• Are comfortable teaching in a live virtual classroom environment
• Have an interest in teaching elementary through middle school levels

Responsibilities

• Teach enthusiastic elementary and/or middle school students in our online classrooms.
• Use our curriculum to teach participation-oriented classes that focus on instruction and developing skills, not on rote memorization.
• Work in small classes (average size 12) with top performing students who are passionate about learning and are motivated to succeed.
• Provide thoughtful, thorough feedback on students’ writing assignments.
• Foster a virtual classroom environment that encourages critical thinking and problem solving.
