About The Position
The Academic Mentor provides high-dosage, targeted tutoring to high school students based on their individual academic needs. The position provides small-group support to reinforce essential skills, address learning gaps, and accelerate academic growth and success. While this is an online school position and all instruction occurs virtually, travel and face-to-face attendance will be required several times per year to support in-person state testing and student events. This role is open to residents of Florida.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Patient, dependable, and committed to supporting student achievement and postsecondary success.
- Comfortable using technology and virtual learning platforms.
Nice To Haves
- Additional education preferred.
- Teaching degree or certification is not required.
- Experience working with high school-aged students preferred.
- Experience in tutoring, mentoring, youth programs, education, or a similar setting preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide consistent, high-dosage tutoring to high school students in small groups.
- Deliver targeted support in English, high school mathematics, and other core academic areas based on student needs and data.
- Use provided instructional materials and strategies to reinforce classroom learning and address identified skill gaps.
- Build positive relationships that promote student engagement, confidence, academic ownership, and persistence.
- Support students in developing effective study habits, organization, and strategies for academic success.
- Monitor and document student attendance, participation, and academic progress.
- Communicate student progress and concerns with teachers and school leadership.
- Participate in training and follow school procedures for student safety, confidentiality, and professionalism.
