About The Position

Join General Motors’ Virtual Design, Development & Validation (VDDV) team and help shape the future of vehicle development using advanced simulation and virtual tools. In this early-career role, you’ll learn from experts, build your CAE skills, and see your work influence real vehicles from concept through production. You’ll receive structured onboarding and CAE training, mentorship from senior VDDV engineers and Technical Specialists, and exposure over time to areas such as Thermal, Safety, Body, and Propulsion/Electrification.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace, or related Engineering (MS/PhD welcome).
  • Hands-on experience with CAE tools from coursework, projects, research, or internships.
  • Understanding of material properties and exposure to FEA/CFD/multibody dynamics; familiarity with CAE modeling tools.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to work both independently and on teams.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and Google tools; interest in automation/scripting (e.g., Python) is a plus.
  • Early-career engineer (recent or soon-to-be graduate) excited to learn, grow, and use virtual engineering to help deliver world-class vehicles.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior CAE or simulation internship/research experience.
  • Experience with NASTRAN, OptiStruct, LS-DYNA or similar tools.
  • Exposure to automotive testing, manufacturing processes, or vehicle assembly.
  • Leadership in classes, projects, competitions, or service organizations; curiosity about new technology and competitive products.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and run simulation-based analyses (FEA, CFD, multibody dynamics, and related tools) to support key vehicle design decisions.
  • Analyze and post-process results, create plots, and summarize findings for design and program reviews.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners (engineering, design, manufacturing, validation, suppliers, and program teams).
  • Help resolve vehicle issues quickly by using virtual methods to explore design options and tradeoffs.
  • Champion the use of virtual engineering, AI, automation, and analytics to improve speed and built-in quality.
