About The Position

This position is responsible for providing awareness education, training, intervention, and outreach services to community organizations and agencies about sexual assault and domestic violence, its impact on individuals, families and the community; and building healthy, non-violent alternatives. May also work with survivors, family members, and secondary survivors providing empowerment focused education and support. The goal for the Advocate for Violence Prevention is to empower individuals and communities with knowledge and tools to prevent domestic violence and sexual assault, support survivors and create a community of safety and respect.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree or higher in Education/Social Service Field or other related field
  • 1 year working in a child/teen field or related work experience
  • First Aid Certification
  • CPR Certification
  • De-escalation Certification
  • Medication Monitoring Certification
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license
  • Proof of automobile liability insurance
  • Access to an operational vehicle
  • Meets ODMH licensure and certification requirements
  • Knowledge of safety rules and procedures

Responsibilities

  • Promotes Transparency, Team-Work, and Trauma-Informed Care as the guiding principles of professional conduct.
  • Responsible for researching, designing and implementing educational presentations, workshops, and training sessions for various audiences, such as schools, community organizations, professionals, and the general public. Have a thorough understanding of dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault and able to effectively communicate this information to diverse audiences in an age appropriate manner.
  • Plays a crucial role with the Coordinator/Team in raising knowledge about domestic violence and sexual assault by organizing public awareness campaigns, participating in community events, utilizing various media platforms.
  • Works collaboratively with the Coordinator and other organizations, community leaders, and stakeholders to develop and strengthen partnerships that promote intervention and support services. This may include participating in coalitions, task forces and committees related to violence prevention.
  • Creates and maintains educational materials, resource guides, and online content related domestic violence and sexual assault that adheres to the Ohio Revised Code, Erin’s Law, the Ohio Department of Education guidelines, and supervision approval.
  • Adheres to the OAESV Core Standards, attends trainings and coalition meetings pertaining to the education and advocacy services.
  • Maintains accurate, complete records of programs and projects (including program sign-in sheets and completed participant pre/posttest evaluations) and provides the Coordinator with monthly status reports in compliance to agency standards and measures.
  • Maintains up-to-date and accurate calendar of events including all scheduled education sessions, special projects, etc. and communicate to agency and appropriate community partners as necessary to maximize attendance
  • Works with Coordinator to create a comprehensive annual prevention event calendar highlighting community advocacy and prevention activities as necessary
  • Outreach to at-risk clients and linkage to the appropriate services as needed.
  • Maintains and completes all required documentation in the Victim Service Tracking Electronic Software Record as indicated and meets all required timelines for completion of documentation.
  • Participates in, and is on time, for all mandatory staff meetings, case reviews, treatment meetings and supervision.
  • Has no unexcused absences from any unit, department, and mandatory agency meetings and trainings.
  • Maintains license or registration appropriate to profession and to job requirement, including mandatory and required amount of continuing education at all times of employment.
  • Maintains agency-required annual training including, but not limited to, client rights and grievances, safety training, infection control, and others as required by OHMHAS.
  • Remains free from citations by other providers or by consumers for unethical practice and meet standard for own profession.
  • Adheres to all organizational and departmental policies, including compliance with all behavioral and ethical expectations.
  • Participates in weekly supervision requirements.
  • Other clinical duties as assigned.
