About The Position
Harmony Hospice is seeking compassionate individuals to join our team as Vigil Volunteers in Akron, OH. As a Vigil Volunteer, you will provide calm, respectful companionship and emotional comfort to patients at the end of their lives. This role involves offering gentle reassurance through presence, conversation, music, reading, or prayer, and supporting family members by offering respite and reassurance. You will also be responsible for communicating any changes or concerns to hospice staff, maintaining confidentiality, and adhering to hospice policies. A key aspect of this role is respecting the cultural, spiritual, and personal preferences of patients and their families.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older
- Completion of hospice volunteer training and vigil-specific education
- Ability to remain calm and present in emotionally sensitive situations
- Background check and health screening required
- Access to reliable transportation is needed for this position
